Participation at the 4th Shipping and Environment Conference

We are thrilled to share that the Virtual Reality application developed for the Green Marine Project was recently featured at the 4th Shipping and Environment Conference, which took place at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden!

As part of the project’s mission to advance maritime sustainability, Dimitrios Sykas from the Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering, University of Strathclyde presented the latest Green Marine news and demonstrated an in-house developed VR application that provides an immersive #360° exploration of CalMac Ferries Limited MV Coruisk. This application aids in visualising and building familiarity with the ship’s engine room, stabiliser room, and additionally provides external views during the vessel's drydocking, enhancing the project’s planned retrofit operations.

It was incredibly rewarding to see the enthusiasm for how digital solutions like VR can actively support the shipping sector's transition to more sustainable practices. A big thank you to the organizers at Chalmers, and especially Prof. Ida-Maja Hassellöv, Dr. Fayas Malik Kanchiralla, Emma Flygare (f.d Brink), and Peiyu Hou for hosting such an insightful conversation, and to everyone who stopped by to test out the headset and discuss the future of green shipping.
