Paper publication in the Journal of Cleaner Production

We are pleased to share a new paper publication which was based on work carried out for the Green Marine Project!

The work of Dr. Ahmed Elkafas and Prof. Iraklis Lazakis from the Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering, University of Strathclyde, entitled "Integrated Dynamic, Regulatory, and Economic Assessment of Onboard Carbon Capture Systems" was published in the Journal of Cleaner Production.

In this study, they presented a comprehensive framework that integrates dynamic simulation, regulatory assessment, and techno-economic analysis of onboard CCS under realistic operating conditions.

The proposed methodology simulates CCS performance across realistic voyage profiles, capturing time-dependent variations in engine load, exhaust gas characteristics, and waste heat availability using real ship operational data.

Key findings demonstrate how CCS performance varies under dynamic operational conditions and identify optimal CCS capacities that balance environmental benefits with economic viability.
