We are thrilled to announce that our latest Open Access paper has been published in the Ocean Engineering journal under the title "Techno-economic and environmental assessment of carbon capture solutions in maritime transportation".

⚓ Key Insights

• Currently, chemical absorption is the most mature technology for carbon capture onboard ships, achieving capture rates above 90% and capture costs as low as EUR 163.07/t_CO2, though energy demand and onboard integration remain significant hurdles.
• Emerging technologies, such as membranes and carbon solidification, show promise and are currently in preliminary development phases.
• Moving forwards, focus should be put on advanced materials, system efficiency enhancement, and the integration of renewable energy sources.
